USMMA Advanced Firefighting Practice Exam

On firefighting equipment symbol charts, each symbol number points to a specific piece of gear. Symbol 59 is assigned to Additional Breathing Apparatus, meaning it flags extra air-supply equipment beyond the primary SCBA used by firefighters. This designation makes sense because it identifies gear kept ready for use in extended operations or by additional crew—spare or supplementary apparatus that can be brought into action when more breathing air is needed or when teams rotate.

The other described items are associated with different symbols: a fog applicator for extinguishing Class A fires, recharge and spare batteries for SCBA and fireman’s outfits, and portable fire extinguishers each have their own distinct symbol. Thus symbol 59 best matches Additional Breathing Apparatus.
